Three on a Thursday #14

A little late this week, but I’m here none the less,  with three very different slabs of quality tuneage for you – there’s a some 50’s-esque Funk for whet your appetite,  a Ghetto Funk banger for the main course, and a slice of UK Hip hop as a sweet little finish for you.

Right – onwards!

First up is a funky little starter from Laura Vane & The Vipertones. From the handclaps at the start to the hammond organ riff Capsize is a little beltering little piece of funk. Laura Vane‘s voice suits this track absolutely perfectly, the horn lines are bang on the money and the little touch of Dick Dale style surf guitar on the way into the chorus is a quality touch. I don’t know why, but I can’t stop thinking of kids dancing in an American diner when I listen to this …

There’s also a great little video for this one (and this is in no way influenced by the appearance of the Laura & the backing singers in a swimsuits …)

Second tune this week is features two of the usual suspects from this series, with a tune from Telephunken remixed by that man, Ewan Hoozami

Shake Your Monkey (Ewan Hoozami remix) is DUTTEH!. The bass noises on this one are throughly arsequaking, bordering on the ridiculous – it’s definitely from the same school as the Busta remix of Rench that I posted a few months ago as part of the Three on a Thursday series. Should exercise a few speakers with this one!

There’s a wicked little groove to the last little number from Phi Life Cypher. I’ve been a fan of these boys for a good long while, their debut album Millenium Metaphors being one of the first UK Hip Hop albums I bought back in the day  and Watchin My TV (feat Richey Spitz) is more cracking stuff from the crew.  A smooth guitar line and a real 50’s drum sound, with serious flow from  Si Phili and Life MC to top it off – can’t wait for the upcoming album ‘The Professionals’. Props to Mr Soulsbury for the tip on this one.
