I was seriously considering doing a ‘Room 101’ style Three on Thursday this time round, highlighting 3 tracks I just can’t abide and ceremonially locking them away for eternity.
Thing is, that would have entailed trawling through a sack of utter dross from the Tweetie Song to anything Abba have ever written, rather than actually listening to tunes, y’know, I might actually like…
So, lets stick to the script, eh, after all, it’s lasted for the first 100 of these …
First up this week is an absolute doozy of a hiphop number from the High Focus boys. Future Posse Cut 1000 featuring the Dirty Dike, Stig of the Dump, Dr Syntax, BVA, Leaf Dog, Fliptrix, Dat Kid, Verb T, Jam Baxter, and more – so basically anyone who’s anyone in UK Hip-hop, all over a Pete Cannon beat.
Think it’s between Doc Sinners and Stiggy’s for top verse, but it’s proper neck snapping stuff.
The next one is a new one on me, the rather superbly names Zo! (I can’t read that without imagining a German supervillian twirling his moustache whilst saying it …)
Playing Your Game has the jazzy hip-hop thing going on in shovelfuls, matching smooth beats with a Barry White beached-whale-of-love vocal … cool as fuck.
Seeing us out this week is a sublime slice of bassy mellow ‘night bus’ music from Shigeto. Olivia is straight out of the Burial school of beats, with lushly textured soundscape studded with fractured drums, and ethereal sample.
Proper late night music
