Ahoy kids – running it close to the wire again, it’s Three on a Thursday time again!
This week brace yerselves for some Kiwi FunkHopSoul gubbins, a Latin beats workout and a wobbly pile of Funk and Hip-Hop samples …
Incoming!
I’m a sucker for both ‘happy, summery sounding tunes’ and ‘stuff by Panama Cardoon‘, so this one was a shoo-in for this weeks Three on a Thursday. With big blasts of latin horns, and a hip wiggling vibe, Charanguera should help with those January blues, especially when combined with a large rum – in fact, most things seem better when combined with a large rum …
Out now on Carnibal Records, and available from Junodownload right now!
Track two this week is another one exhibiting The Funk in spades, and with that horn solo in the middle, more than a touch of the Jazz as well. Sola Rosa‘s track Turn Around melds these two as well adding a good dollop of hip-hop and a smidge of electronic bleepery. Iva Lamkum takes on vocal duty an delivers a peach of a smouldering soulful number – there’s also a freebie of a cracking Suff Daddy remix of this doing the round as well
Hat tip to DJ Moneyshot for this one …
Last up this week ist the almost-mandatory-now-I’ve-done so-many-times Ghetto Funk/sliced and diced breaks number- c’mon it’s not a Three on a Thursday without *something* with a big-arsed beat to it is it?
DJ Soo and Tim Livingstone have both featured on the blog before and with Boom! they’ve excelled themselves, creating a big booty shaking prime party number – the sheer number of samples is both awe-inspiring and indicative of *far* too much time on their hands – I detected slices from Mr Oizo, Public Enemy, KRS-One, Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff, C&C Music Factory, Wreckx N Effect and that’s without picking out all the funk horn samples …
All of this wrapped up with a great break and a big bassline – this should knock ’em dead.
