Another week, another opportunity to terrorise your ears with a randomly eclectic set of tunes that are new to me this week …
For those of you who follow Three on a Thursday, I like to give you a little heads up as to some of the upcoming gigs that I’ve got cooking.
Number one is down the other end of the M4, in Soho to be exact, on the 22nd September. Make a date in your diary, as it’ll be a good one.
Number two is thuper theekrit at the moment, as it’s still unconfirmed, but if you’re into all thinks wobbly nu funkular nonsense, get yourself to Bristol around the 17th of September, as something big is going down in funky town.
Right – tunes.
Number one this week is Freak U Higher, a thoroughly infectious mash-up of the mighty Missy Elliot and soul legend Jackie Wilson (and a fest of random reggae MC shouts, whoops, hollers and the odd rave horn), by Disco Shed (co)head honcho, hat wearer of the year, International Man of Reggae and good buddy Count Skylarkin’. After teasing us for aaaaages, it’s *finally* available for purchase here.
Two’s up is a bit of an electro-swing monster from the Jack-of-all-genres, Jem Stone. With an awesome swinging horn line combined with some nice little scratches Be-Bop 2 Hip-Hop is great little shuffler to bring the night up
The last one is a little bit out of the leftfield for me. There is a fine line between genius and insanity, and Blunt Instrument are dancing very close to it with this cracking little burner of a White Stripes / The Hardest Button to Button (Blunt Instrument Bootleg) they’ve appropriately released in time for the Burning Man festival. Seriously wobbly bassline nonsense.

A fine line between genius and insanity 🙂
We try to constantly walk that line!
