I think we’ve finally managed to dry out after a rather brilliant (if thoroughly pissy-arsed) Chilled Cider at the Square & Compass in Worth Matravers (a village which according to whoever modified the sign is twinned with Royston Vasey), though I’m not sure if my liver has recovered after too many pints of the local loony juice. In spite of this epic bender over the weekend, I’ve returned to bless your lug’oles with more finely selected tunes …
There does seem to be a recent run of remixes, edits and tweaks of Ray Charles tunes over the last few years, with Northern Funk Monkey, Smoove giving us the thoroughly Nu Funk Ray’s Road and now Opiuo uppping the bass on Good Thyme (Opiuo Remixx) pushing it into definite Ghetto Funk territory. Ewan Hoozami and DJ Detta have been showing it some love in their recent mixes, and I reckon this will be tearing up this summers dancefloors. Even better is it’s a free download from the Opiuo website!
Tune number two is some sort of Jazz meets Funk meets Breaks sipping White Russians in a casino in Monaco whilst James Bond busts out the headspins in a breakdance competition with Ernst Starvo Blofeld between the roulette wheels. It’s those Renegades of Jazz again with their Spy-busting Assignment B-Boy. Oof!
Finally this week I thought I’d turn up the big dial marked ‘Summer’ and Dan Wilde is just the man to help, with this lovely little mash up of Rebel MC and Top Cat called Street Request that he’s done for Black Belt Jams series. I expect to hear this firing out from at least a few of the soundsystems at St Pauls Carnival in a few weeks time, and yet again it’s up for free download.
Right that’s your lot, hope these can you thoroughly warmed up for the weekend!
