I’ve literally just posted the last one of these, and I’m already starting to draft the next one – my quest for the finest tracks for you lot is never-ending! Talk about commitment to the cause …
If you like this series, and fancy seeing me spin them live, pop into the Pipe & Slippers tonight where I’m playing alongside DJ Moneyshot and Roy Strong at Flipzilla from 9pm, and if you fancy your beats juicier, and your bass bouncier come and see us tear the roof off The Big Chill Bar Study with a Ghetto Funk work out on Saturday from 11-2am.
Found this one on the home of those ten tonne gorillas of Funk over at Monkeyboxing.com. Featuring a fresh vocal from J.Todd of Def Harmonic, over a beat sculpted by Mr Fantastic from a classic Meters organ loop, this is pure hip-hop heaven. Fire up the BBQ, crack open a cold one, and press play on All the Critics.
Next up is also a summery little number – you can tell I’m writing this whilst it’s nice out can’t you – Jimi Needles takes the beat from one of my all-time favourite funk tracks, the amazing Honeydrippers / Impeach the President, and working the vocal from M.I.A. / Paper Planes over it, comes up with Paper Presidents (Jimi Needles Summer Cocktail). Pure genius.
Finally, Burn It Down has possibly the hottest hot line I’ve heard since the Kashmere Stage Band. Combined with the Jay-Z-esque delivery of Minnesota MC Sims this tune is an absolute scorcher. I’ll definitely be checking out his album Bad Time Zoo and I suggest you do to. Props to Photojojo for the tip off on this one.
