Everyone loves a good mashup don’t they? Taking a well known track, spinning it on it’s head and watching the dancefloors reaction of “ooh, I know thi … wait a minute” before going mental is a great laugh.
Leading from the front , the EP opens with label boss Hidden Riddim and his compadre El Bomba’s track, Dr Fluteski. Taking a chopped and screwed flute loop from the Beastie Boys laid over a snapping snare, this will surely set your head nodding.
On Where’s Me Washboard,Hong Kong Ping Pongshow their love of both kinds of music, Country *and* Western when they go digging for samples. Featuring a full-bore gap-toothed yokel style ‘harmonicky solo’ over one of Kernows biggest recent exports – Bass.
Apologies about the lack of a ToT last week – sadly had to spend 8-9hrs driving to and from visiting a very ill relative and really *really* wasn’t in the right headspace to write anything.
That’s not happened this week though, so we’re back with the beat (and rhymes – yes – it’s a bit hip-hop heavy this week …)
Apologies for the lack of a ToT last week, I was in Toyko on my hols and was suffering from a dearth of wi-fi access – or at least reasonably priced wi-fi access – I wasn’t going to pay the £20 a day the hotel wanted to charge me – I blame my Scottish heritage for the ‘deep pockets & short arms’ nature of this excuse
Never fear though, normal service has been returned, and to make up for the emotional trauma of missing a week, I’ve dropped a double dose of tunes on you below …
I know, I know – I missed one. As in ‘totally missed’ rather than ‘was a day late’. The only excuse I have is that I managed to leave my laptop charger was in the Midlands, whilst my laptop was in Bristol, with the two only being reunited on New Years Eve which to be honest was when I was more interested in attempting to drink my own bodyweight in booze. I succeeded in this mission so well, that the next couple of days were a bit ropey and low an behold a week was missed
Sorry.
Well, now the grovelling is over let’s get involved shall we?
Thanks to those of you who came down to Timbuk2 on Friday – good news is they loved it and I’m back giving it some red-hot room 2 action on the 12th August whilst Nebula bosh out the DnB in the main room. Excellent.
