Three on a Thursday #10

How’s this for commitment – I’m working my arse off in Paris this week and I still find the time to give your ears their weekly education …

I considered making this a ‘French Special’ in light of my location, and putting my favourite Francophone tracks up here, but thought that it’d be cheating a little, so here you go, three of the freshest cuts to hit my ears this week.

Next week it’ll (hopefully) be Rome that I post this from – provided I can find a wireless network!

Three on a Thursday #9

B-b-b-back again kids!

Welcome to Three on a Thursday #9, pull up a chair, sit down, you may be here for a while …

If you’re about in Bristol tonight, I’ll be chucking a few records on at The Pipe & Slippers alongside Roy Strong and DJ Moneyshot, so pop down for a beer if you can.

Right – onto the tunes!

Three on a Thursday #8

It’s come around already – it’s Thursday, the weekend is almost here, and it’s time for the lastest rundown of ‘stuff that new to me’.

I think the tunes that I selected last week are probably directly responsible for the glorious run of weather we’ve had over the last few days – feels like spring has sprung around here, so there are a couple of upbeat little numbers and a late night end-of-nighter for you this week. Should be an ideal part of the soundtrack for any brave BBQers this weekend. I expect an invite by the way …

Three on a Thursday #7

I’ve literally just posted the last one of these, and I’m already starting to draft the next one – my quest for the finest tracks for you lot is never-ending! Talk about commitment to the cause …

If you like this series, and fancy seeing me spin them live, pop into the Pipe & Slippers tonight where I’m playing alongside DJ Moneyshot and Roy Strong at Flipzilla from 9pm, and if you fancy your beats juicier, and your bass bouncier come and see us tear the roof off The Big Chill Bar Study with a Ghetto Funk work out on Saturday from 11-2am.

Three on a Thursday #6

BOING said Zebedee – the big man is back with yet more fresh (to his ears anyway) tunes!

This week I’ve got a proper little Nu Funk burner, a modern Northern Soul-ish number and Hip Hop about the trials and tribulations of a superhero for you to get your lugholes round.

If you like this series and want to hear ’em churned out live, or even buy me a pint by way of thanks for introducing all these wonderous tunes, check the ‘Gigs’ listing at the top of the page. Your next opportunity is tonight at The Pipe & Slippers with Flipzilla, and then again tomorrow with those crazy simians Monkey Chuckle, at The Golden Lion.

Three on a Thursday #5

It’s Thursday, it’s around lunchtime, it must be time for the next installment of Three on a Thursday!

This week there’s some Jazz, some Hip-Hop and a little bit of Bristolian Downtempo to enjoy, so no more blathering, on with the tunes.

Three on a Thursday #4

Another week, another Three on a Thursday for you. Seems like quite a few of  people are liking this series, so as long as you lot keep clicking and listening, I’ll keep rummaging around the internet to find shiny stuff for you.

I thought of attempting to start this week with a witty quote or acerbic comment on the state of the world, but as I’m writing this after midnight on a school night my brain is not in the right place for such shenanigans – on with the music!

Three on a Thursday #3

(There’s a tongue twister for you)

Ahoy all! Three in three weeks – aren’t you lot lucky!

To be honest I’m slightly surprised that I’ve not been my usual slack self on this, but here you are, three more nuggets to get you through Thursday, and warmed up for the weekend.

Three on a Thursday #2

Second week into this little experiment and, as the abuse hasn’t been too severe, I thought I’d go rummaging again to see what I could find for you lot this time. Please find enclosed three more prime cuts that are new to me, and maybe to you as well.

If you like what you hear, pop and see guesting with DJ Vallee, from Bristol’s Finest Funkateers, Funk from the Trunk, smashing it up at Mr Wolf’s from very late this Saturday to the early hours of Sunday morning, where the flyer says we’ll be serving you “good old-fashioned funk & soul, classic hip-hop, and all those funky party breaks & mash-ups that keep the party rolling” – best leave the Perry Como at home then …

Right, pimping over, on to the tunes!

Three on a Thursday #1

I was having a blog related quandary the other day – I know four posts in is a little early for existential crises – but I was struck by the thought.  What this site is here for?

The initial idea was to have this as a on-line Electronic Promotion Kit, essentially somewhere I could point people when I was pushing for gigs, with mixes, a bio, some press shots and the like. I was also going to have links to the shows that I do on Purple Radio.

Thing is, it might be a little sparse at times, so I thought,  what could I do to come up with more quality content? Then I realised I spend loads of my free time scrubbing through new releases and am often asked by mates where tunes have come from, what labels they’ve been released by, etc. and then it struck me – I should spread the love, and what better way to do that than to round up a few of my favourite cuts and chuck them to you in time to warm you up for the weekend?

BEHOLD!  Three on a Thursday !

Some tunes are new, some are old ones I’ve only just discovered, some will be upbeat, some a bit more mellow – the only unifying factor is that I’ll have picked them up at some point over the  week, I like ’em and I’ll do my best to put them up on a Thursday for you to have a butchers at.
