About djsherlockohms
Obsessive music nerd for since his formative years, Sherlock Ohms finally pulled his finger out and started inflicting his collection of Funk, Soul, Hip-hop, Reggae, Breaks, Beats and random ephemera on the unwitting public in mid-2008.
Since then he's graced the airwaves of Big Chill FM and Purple Radio, the stages of the Festinho festival, and the DJ booths of the UK fluffing for the likes of DJ Moneyshot, Boca 45 and Ugly Duckling.
Whether it's early morning chilled wig outs, or eclectic party starting beat fests there's a reason they call him 'No Shit Sherlock'
As is seemingly the case these days, it’s a fortnight since the last one of these I’ve cobbled together – I blame fatherhood for the low output – a combination of early starts and no sleep for making me want my bed more than I want to dredge the internet for tunes as much as I used to.
Fear not mind, I’ve managed to drag my lazy carcass to the keyboard again to unleash three new tunes on your earholes!

I’m getting worse at this remembering to blog tunes for you mob on a Thursday don’t I? With one thing and another, specifically an almost two-year old thing, I rarely get the sort of long stretches of unbroken time in which I can finely hone a blog post for you …
This week however …

Longtime buddy of the blog, Ewan Hoozami, has taken a bit a of musical ‘left at the traffic lights’ move recently
Not being satisfied with smashing up dancefloors of the UK and Europe with eclectic, beat laden party styling sets, or releasing sample heavy mashups, he’s taken to singing …

Ok, not only did I miss a week, I’m now late on this one , but to be fair it’s Valentine’s Day, and I’m risking the wrath of the missus for writing this rather than waiting in her hand and foot …
Ooops.
Can I make up for my recent slackness with some belting tunes?
Please?

Ahhh, and relax. Almost the end of a hectic week, so I’ve cracked a beer – A London Brewers Alliance Collaborative Stout by The Kernel, if you must know – and am trawling tunes. Bliss

You should know the drill by now – some funk, some reggae, some beats, some breaks, some bleeps.

Sometime music is surprisingly dumb and formulaic.
C’mon, admit it, DUR-DUR-WUBWUBWUBWUBWUB can get *seriously* trying after the the first few microseconds unless you’re full of more horse tranquillisers than Shergar on a comedown and ‘bootleg culture’ isn’t much better. Face it, the majority of songs which work well together, or can be ‘reinterpreted’ by banging a chunky beat and bassline underneath them is rapidly diminishing.
I like The Allergies, they seem to be one of the few using their brains whilst making music. It’s not just the same formulaic ‘take a popular song from the 60s/70s/80s and stick a wobble under it’ which seems to be all too prevalent in some scenes, but a proper cut and pasting of samples, scratches, nicely structured and usually they’re dancefloor catnip.

Did you miss me?
(in fact don’t answer that, you might hurt my feelings)
Apologies for the lack of a couple of weeks off – I was up in t’Midlands and we’ve only just got electricity up there, let alone the internet ..
Nevermind, I’m back in the land of civilisation now, so you lot get tunes.

Ahoy – I’m currently demob happy, having finished work for the year, so am celebrating by, erm, sitting in my front room digging through tunes as it’s fucking FREEZING out there.
If you’re made of sterner stuff, and fancy a beer and some beats tomorrow, I’ll be gracing the decks in The Volunteer from 10-ish till midnight if you fancy venturing out.
Enjoy the fruits of my labours kids …
