Beats House are a new-ish label to me, but have been banging out the classic hip-hop sound, with their James-Brown-flexin’ cut ‘Get Down’ and spin on Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons ‘Beggin’ recently having found their way into my 7″ box, and I have a feeling that label stalwart Djar’One’s remix of Ultimate Force’s Tuff (So Damn) might well join them there.
I looking forward to this turning up on 7″ – that spoken intro is going to be fun to scratch!
Next track this week flicks my Northern Soul switches, despite the man responsible for it having more in common with Bordeaux than Bolton.
I Made A Deal With Myself dropped a while back, but Alexis Evans soul stormer has finally made it to a vinyl pressing. Be quick though, there were only 17 left when I last looked
Kicking off with an intense little snare buzz, this track jumps straight into things, with a tight horn section lifting the mood and the vocal harmonies starting from the get go. Three minutes later and you’re done, and left with naught but a massive smile on your face.
Last up this week and it’s a bit of a curveball. I’ve been listening to more and more jazz at home recently, and when this gorgeous little number dropped into my inbox from Myele Manzanza, I had to feature it.
Itaru’s Phone Booth is reminiscent of the Bill Evans Trio to begin with, all diminutive piano lines and melancholy before morphing into a more euphoric upbeat little number . Looking forward to hearing the whole album, A Love Requited, when it drops
