Two in two weeks. Aren’t you lot lucky!
I’m a sucker for old school hip-hop. Cuttin’ & scratchin’ a jazzy break whilst the b-boys whirl on the floor – there’s not enough of this sort of thing these days (probably becuase the lawyers got a bit hot on the entire ‘sampling without asking permission’ thing), so it’s always nice to stumble across a certified Golden Era banger.
Enforce the Positive by Outlaw Posse, aka Kgee and MC Bello B, dropped on the wonderfully titled ‘My Afros On Fire Vol. 2‘ in ’93, and is still utterly fresh as hell!
Go bag a 7″ with this and the equally cracking Living in Hackney on the flip from 45 Live Records bandcamp
More hip-hop for track two this week – still keeping it UK, but moving it to Bristol and updating it by about 25 years, courtesy of Rogue and Relly and their Beachy Winter
Rogue was one of the boys behind the Bastard Sunz, and it’s cracking to hear new beats from one of the best.
Last up this week is a hypnotic little chuck of sliced and diced electronic beauty from Maribou State and Khruangbin. I’m not sure about making me Feel Good, but it definitely makes me feel a bit trippy, with the looping guitars smacking of Tinariwen, and chopped up warbling vocal snippets scribbling in and out of focus.
Go check the new album, Kingdoms in Colour, if this is your sort of thing.
Any yes, both the hand and the flower move in the video, your eyes aren’t broken …
