Sorry, I’ve been *rubbish* at this whole blogging thing. Work got hectic, as did life and whilst I’ve been digging, I’ve not been writing it up …
Here’s to catching up
I’ve kinda jumped off the ‘virtual crate digging on Discogs’ deep end over the last couple of weeks, trying to bolster my vinyl collection with some fun stuff, and I’ve dug up some terrific bits and pieces which just haven’t been made available digitally before, either as there’s no demand, or as a conscious decision from the label.
First one I’ve dug out in this little session is this proper little uptempo funk number from Nick Pride & The Pimptones – played this whilst I had some mates over for a chippy tea on Friday, and caused spontenous dancing to break out, which just tells you how good this one is.
The flute solo (yes … flute solo) in this is utterly blinding!
I remember, about 10 years ago, some of my more disco-tinged brethren going into conniptions any time Linkwood was mentioned, and I think I now kinda get why.
Tears is gorgeously soulful mid-tempo chugger – now all I need to do if find a copy of the album going for less than fifty sheets …
Last up is a Melanin Man wonderful jazzy, slightly sleazy, loose and louche number from Brasstracks featuring Masego.
Wonderful – properly getting me in the mood for my holiday next week!
