Feelin’ a bit autumnal at the moment isn’t it? Wonder if that’ll be reflected in this weeks tunes?
Been doing an above average amount of digging this week even by my standards, lots of lovely new places to look, some excellent ‘nearly’ tracks from Magnetic Magazine and a stack of mixes from Horse Meat Disco, but the big three this week are below.
One of the sets of my summer was Greg Wilson closing out Farmfest, so when I stumbled across a Facebook link to a mix he did at Ibiza’s Glitterbox this summer, I dived in feet first, and the first track is a belter.
Chewy Rubs track Future Freak starts with a properly slow chuggy buildup and a ticking drum, before building hypnotically around Nile Rodgers guitar line from Le Freak, then slowly other bits of the Chic track are sliced in and out … wonderful stuff
It’s that good i’ve actually gone and bought it on 12″ as it was the only way I could lay my hands on it …
Major hat tip to Greg Wilson for getting back to me within minutes when I asked what the track was – kudos to you sir!
Oooooh, James Brown rerub time!
This week your dose of neck-snappin, floor stompin funkiness comes courtesy of Serge Gamesbourg who’s taken a tilt a I Need a Help, somehow managing to make it *even funkier* than the original …
Last track is from a favourite act of mine, The Mouse Outfit who’ve dropped a new track today, I wonder …
… no no, that’s the track name, I Wonder. It’s a little bit a of a switch up from their usual for the first half, a lot woozier with a bit of a sunshined out West Coast vibe, with a slightly ethereal vocal from IAMDDB and some nice bars from Fox
