Sorry I missed yesterday – had most of a post prepped and ready to rock your worlds, but was parenting solo and my dear darling hellbats, *ahem*, daughters weren’t playing ball – by the time they were down, I was not in the right place to meander some missives down for you
Am now thought!
ONWARDS!
Another week, another Anna Banana recommendation that hits the spot. She’s like some sort of disco-diva rain(wo)man …
This one came as a result of watching the Chic coverage at last weekend’s Glastonbury festival, whereupon it was commented that ‘this is the best track Nile Rodgers ever touched’, and I’m minded to agree.
This is Fonzi Thornton with I’ll Change My Game (feat. Chic Orgainisation)
(if this flicks your switches there are a couple of lovely edits from Yam Who? and Smoove, and the original is a pain in the arse to find as it was unreleased until recently)
More disco-tastic stylings up next, kinda courtesy of Dave Bain and the kids at Supersmash
I stumbled across a photo I’d taken at one of the their nights, of a 12″ from the Razor N Tape label. A little rummage through their back catalogue and I found this delicious chuggy little wonder, Beatin’ The Breaks (Fouk Remix) from Magic in Threes
Last up is some good old fashioned hard bopping funk from Melbournites, Cookin’ on 3 Burners. The band’s cover of Feel Good Inc. has been a standard on my set lists for a loooooong time, and it’s been a while since I’d heard from them.
This recently dropped 7″, Real Life Baby , is a slow and soulful number, with the very talented Emmi on vocal. Give it a listen
Even better is that the flip on the 7” is an *epic* funk cover of Metallica’s Enter Sandman …
