On time this week eh?
No gigs this weekend as I’m off indulging my other vice – bikes, this time of the vintage variety at Eroica Britannia, riding an ’81 Dawes Imperial …
I thought of doing something themed, but that would’ve meant leaving out some of the tunes I’d already spotted and that wouldn’t have been right, as there are a couple of corkers this week
First up this was thrown up by Spotify’s weekly recommendation list (yeah, took some, *serious* digging to find … ahem) and is the first of the aforementioned corkers. I was a bit of a fan of The Beta Band back in the day, and yes, I was one of those introduced to them by that scene in High Fidelity, I was a bit gutted when they quit after the presciently titled ‘Heroes to Zeros’, but never fear! Lead singer, Steve Mason still releases stuff as King Biscuit Time. First tune of his I heard was the lovely I Walk The Earth.
Mate of mine had a rather wonderful thread of ‘favourite remixes’ going on today, and one of the absolute standouts in terms of tunes and a rather brilliant video was the Hello Steve Reich Remix of David Bowie’s Love is Lost, by James Murphy (a.k.a. Mr LCD Soundsystem.
Last one for you this week is slab of funktacular fantasticness from Dr Rubberfunk, down there in the Disco Scene – love the break in this one, and there’s some lovely cut and past vocals going on in there as well.
