Apologies for missing last weeks post – sick kids and wife makes for no time to dig for music.

So, now the plague of chundering has finally passed our house I can get back on top of these posts. Eyes down for the prize!

Low and lazy hip-hop to start off with this week – with some of the finest flowmeisters Gift of Gab, A-F-R-O and R.A. the Rugged Man.

getting all up in your grill with Freedom Flow Form – the lyrical dexterity on this track is mindblowing, I’ve not heard at MCing like this on a track, well, since the last A-F-R-O track I heard tbh, and I’m loving the spooky synth sound!

Luke Vibert is a man of many hats, from the discotechno-tinged Kerrier District, via the drum and bassbin work under Plug and Spac Hand Luke, to the distinctly off-kilter Wagon Christ, but Heard It All B4 from the brilliantly named ‘UK Garave Vol. 1’ brings his original squelchy acid sound to smooth early house synth lines circa Pacific 808, a big lump of Amen break, and lots of wonky keyed vocals.

This is getting me doing a proper chair dance whilst I’m writing this – go on, give it a listen …

Express Yourself is a bit of a classic isn’t it? I’ve got the from Charles Wright and the 103^rd St Rhythm Band, but end up playing the Lettuce version out more often than not, and I think I’ve got a version by Idris Muhammad as well.

Then there’s the tracks which have sampled and remixed it, including the fabulous Mocean Worker remix and most famously the N.W.A track which takes its main sample from the Charles Wright original

This Tom Showtime mash takes the Charles Wright version and chucks the vocals from N.W.A’s slice of hip-hop history over it  to great effect. Nice
