Been a good music week so far, Excellent gig by Lack of Afro at the Lantern on Friday, and the new Sherwood and Pinch to have a go on, and digging for some lovely lovely tunes for you lot to listen to.
Shall we?
Always time for a good old Northern Soul style funk stomper isn’t there?
Barbara Lynn‘s I’m a Good Woman is exactly my kind of rough and ready track with drums so driving they could present the next series of Top Gear, and some serious horn stabs.
(h/t to the beflip-flopped Balearic Captain of the good ship Purple Radio, Mr Black, who posted his on International Women’s Day)
Next up is a little bit of hip-hop, en francais
I’m a sucker for good French hip-hop, the language just seems to work to rap in, and given that as a nation they’re widely credited as being second only to the US for the number of tracks they produce. there’s plenty to go at.
A lovely little acoustic guitar loop underpins this belting little number by Hocus Pocus. I definitely Dig This
Last one is more of a late night number. xxyyxx’s track DMT is and oldie, but it’s the first time I’d heard it – to me it sounds like ‘if burial has listened to more choral work when her was younger’ – all handclaps, bass and the half heard murmerings of Trappist choirs
