Another week , another ToT – this week with some classic golden era style hip-hop, something deep and glitchy and something seriously woozy beats.
Hope you enjoy the selections- if you do give me the thumb on Facebook or on WordPress – g’wan, make me feel loved …
Onwards!
J-Live, alongside KRS-One and Jeru Tha Damaja, is up there are one of my favourite conscious MCs out there, and Money Matters is a quality little piece of chilled head-nodding Golden era hip-hop that those boys do better than most. Smart lyrics over a quality beat – what’s not to like?
Available from J-Live’s bandcamp, for a whole dollar … get involved
Sticking with the hip-hop theme, track #2 this week is Schoolboy Q. Kicking off with an eerie piano and single note sax loop courtesy of Alchemist, Break The Bank is a trippy little hypnotic hip-hop number, a little reminiscent of some of the Cypress Hill beats from back in the day.
HT to B’Tol for this one …
In what’s becoming a bit of a theme, the last track this week is a slightly glitchy downtempo piece of late night listening, this time provided courtesy of B.Ink, who has taken the nice-enough-in-a-bland-cookie-cutter-chart-friendly-acoustic-angsty-track Hey Ocean! by Last Mistake, and turned it into the stuttering, brooding atmospherically layed Hey Ocean! (B.Ink Bootleg)
