Ahhh, and relax. Almost the end of a hectic week, so I’ve cracked a beer – A London Brewers Alliance Collaborative Stout by The Kernel, if you must know – and am trawling tunes. Bliss
First up this week is a slab of breaks pointed straight at the dancefloor from Bristol boy, P.O.D.G.E. taking the Gene Chandler original of There Was a Time and giving it the funky breaks treatment, this is rather tasty
Awesome horns
After a bit of a dry spell for him on this blog, it seems like Dave Remix has hit a bit of a purple patch – two features in the ToT this year, and it’s still January!
This weeks he’s back in a classic bootleg style, mashing The Beatles / Lady Madonna over a total classic 80’s slice of electro hip-hop MARRS /Pump Up The Volume to give you Pump Up The Lady
Been a fan of Bonobo for a good few years now – since I first heard his stuff on one of the ZEN compilations from Ninja Tune I think – and spent many a happy hour monging in a field in Eastnor over the years listening to his sounds, so I was chuffed as hell to catch his new one on BBC 6Music over the weekend.
Cirrus is stuffed to the rafters with Mr Greens usual of heap of interesting percussion, all tied together with subtle strings and a minimalist synth line. The bloke really is a master of this sort of thing.
Keep your eyes peeled for a new album in the offing, The North Borders, dropping on 1st April
