DJ Moneyshot does swing? Yer damn right!

Cardiff’s Mixtape King – now based in Bristol, so stepping it up to the big leagues – has been raiding his hugely eclectic record collection and conjured up this cheeky slice of swing sampling silliness with The Way We Swing, complete with authentic 1930’s reggae and hip-hop vocal slices – erm.

I’m a sucker for a mellow hip-hop beat, and it seems that Foreign Correspondence are as well, dropping Nostalgia, properly ‘harking back to the Golden Era’ number, complete with soulful chorus and a wicked little piano sample.

Last up this week is tweak on a stone-cold classic. New Order’s Blue Monday – according to urban legends and pub gossip, which I tend to find totally accurate – was originally designed to be an insanely lazy encore, being entirely written on a drum machine, so that a roadie could walk on, hit play and walk off again. Thing was, the tune is BRILLIANT, so the band all found a way to get involved. It’s also the biggest selling 12″ of all time, which makes the fact that it’s overly complex sleeve – made to look like an old 5 1/4″ floppy disc – made it more expensive to make than they made selling it.

Virgin Magnetic Material take this legendary track and give it a downtempo-y house spin. It’s really rather nice. HT to Lenodd for the heads up.
