Ahoy kiddies!
Had a bit of a purple patch this week, so have a decent grab bag of tunes for your lugholes just in time for the weekend.
Shall we?
First tune this week is an old soul sampling sliced and diced beauty from my main man Gramatik. Lonely & Cold dropped a good few months ago, but I was playing catchup on a few months worth of the Nextmen’s brilliant podcasts (what do you mean you don’t subscribe to them yet?!?!) and this just leapt out at me. Given away fer gratis as a torrent, as is much of his work, this is fantastiche!
The second track is on an album I bought aaaaages ago, then misplaced. It showed up this week, and I finally got round to listening to Natural Self’s brilliant The Art of Vibration album. Pick of the bunch for me is the latiny, hip-hopy, beatfest Welcome to the Ascension.
Last up this week is one of my ‘diamonds in the shit’ tracks. Being listed on Hype Machine means a lot of people send me a lot of music – mostly bad blog house, showboating aggy rap or other such tripe that I can’t abide. Occasionally though a gem turns up. This week it’s Catching Flies, excellent Sunrays.
If this floats your boat, theres a free E.P. of similar stuff over on his site – be warned though, there’s at least one Coldplay sample in there…
