Sorry guys, life got in the way … means I’ve dug a bit deeper this week though
If you like the tunes I drop on the blog, then pop down to Mr Wolfs this Saturday night for a 4 hour sesh of the finest bouncy beaty tunage to make you dance. G’wan, it’ll be ace.
First up this week is some jazz – nice.
I’ve been a fan of those boys from the deep South (of Brixton), the Alabama 3 for a good few years now, and one of their tunes references ‘the sweet sculptural rhythms of Charles Mingus‘ and I realised I’d never knowingly heard any of his music. So Spotify in hand I had a quick listen and out popped II B.S a.k.a. Haitian Fight Song.
Love the sound of the bass on this – I used to have a deep seated dislike of ‘pure’ jazz music, largely as I associated it with atonal trumpet wankery but this is fantastic stuff, with a proper groove to it. Break out the rollneck and jazz fags and get your ears around this.

As well as running the consistently fantastic Wah Wah 45’s label, Scrimshire dropped his debut album, The Hollow towards the end of last year, and as ever ,I totally missed it. I remained in total ignorance until I heard Huey Morgan drop Ascension on the Radio 6 Music this weekend. If you like jazzy soulful beats then this should be right up your street.
Last up this week is a full-bore funk wig-out from the Third Degree, with their cover of erm, Kylie Minogue’s Can’t Get You Out of my Head. Seriously it’s ace – especially now that Smoove has had his grubby Northern mitts on it, and made it into a dancefloor stormer.
