I’ve been in one of those cheerful summer moods this week, largely due to a weekend camping in the Isle of Purbeck for the tenth anniversary of Chilled Cider fuelled by Hecks Kingston Black Scrumpy (thanks Mr Heap) Cuban Cigars (thanks bruv) and some excellent music at the Square and Compass courtesy of Pete Lawrence, with the highlight being The Destroyers, who you should definitely go and see if they end up near you.
Headline props this week must go to Hidden Riddim for bringing the first couple of tracks to my attention – bigs ups sir!

I first heard of Jam Baxter on the Dirty Dike track What d’you Expect? from the utterly brilliant Constant Dikestar album – if you’ve not heard this get it, it’s my album of the year so far.
Brains adds yet another track to the rather long Hip-Hop Zombie playlist that I’ve got – what do you mean that’s only me that’s got one of those? – from the old film dialogue to the jazz samples you’d expect to hear on a Wax Tailor cut, this is straight out of the top drawer. The video is deliciously odd as well ..
Keep your eyes on the High Focus label, there’s some excellent UK hip-hop being pumped out of there at the moment.
More edits from Stoke’s entire hip-hop scene and stunt spectacle wearer, DJP. This time he takes Cro‘s track Easy and slices and dices up its soul stylings with a quality vocal, combining them with a boom bap beat and – well, a German MC, which I’ll admit is rare, but y’know what, it works – making Cro / Easy (DJP Old School Edit) an ideal early evening number.

The irony of the last track this week, is that whilst both of the previous tracks come courtesy of Hidden Riddim, this last track I found under my own steam, loved, and the spotted is on his label.
