Bow-chicka-wow – I’m back baby!

Apologies for last week, it was my baby brothers Wedding and the time set aside for writing Three on a Thursday was sucked up by the shuttling of people, picking up of buttonholes and inevitable wedding shenanigans, followed by a stag do for a separate wedding, so by the time I came back up for air it was Tuesday evening and I was nursing the mother of all hangovers …

Never mind, back now.

Shall we?

First up, Atherton – no nothing to do with the swashbuckling opening bat for England and Lancashire through the 90’s, but more a Canuck hip-hop head with a penchant for the theatrical fired over this cheerful little ditty, Lights Out

Minimal samples over a snapping beat? Check.

Sinister, slightly creepy vocal, reminiscent of Aesop Rock?  Check.

Video that seems to be filmed in a mental hospital? Check.

Hell, I’ll even forgive him for the little bit of autotune that’s crept in there …

I’m obviously in the mood for low-down lazy hip-hop this week. Chill Bump drops  Chillin’ with the Bump a slice of mellow, seriously smooth, late night, G-Funk ish, stuffed to the rafters with sliced up summery samples. Available over here

Last up this week is a bit more bouncy, but still keeping with that summery vibe. It’s been a while since I dropped a Panama Cardoon track, and this time he’s bought another favourite of mine, Palov, with him. Summer of a Fool is a reggae tinged latin beaty number (quelle supris!) with a wicked little vocal. Noice!
