Wow, I’m on time with a Three on a Thursday, despite dragging myself in from beers in my rather sunny garden. How lucky are you lot?
First up this week, I’m hitting you with some *seriously* hip-hopping hard horns.
Quakers are a *35* man (?!?!?) hip-hop collective, and are the latest project from Portishead’s Geoff Barrow (with a helping hand from 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst) and on Fitta Happier, they’ve teamed up with Stones Throw label mate and favourite emcee of mine, Guilty Simpson and MED .Sounding “like Youngblood invited Wu Tang Clan along for beers and a jam” this absolutely BANGS!
(HT to James Remote for the tip)
Next up is summer in a can, as those Dirty Dubsters are back, this time with legendary reggae emcee Top Cat in tow.
Girl Pon Mi Mind is an proper summer anthem dedicated to the temperature and hemlines rising. Featuring a wicked bouncing bassline that’ll give your speakers a serious workout and an one of the best little trumpet loops I’ve heard in a donkeys age, I can see this one getting some serious play when the sun comes out.
Just add smoke for mood (BBQ obviously …)
Last up is the almost mandatory Ghetto Funk wobbler for you. Hold On, Im Coming! by Sam & Dave is one of my favourite soul tracks of all time, and Phat Tony has done a belting job spinning it for the dancefloor, firing in snippets of Public Enemy and Joe Budden in to bring it bang up to date. Definitely dancefloor friendly.
Brilliant little video on this one was well
