I’ve dropped a couple of tunes from the Mash and Munkee boys before on the Ctrl:Alt:TheBeat show, so I was pleasantly surprised when this latest slab of funked up goodness dropped into my inbox.
Read on for the verdict!
The title track Superbad is a top drawer 70’s funk belter dripping in pure blaxploitation vibes, right from the tip of it’s wah-wah guitar to the depths of brassy little horn section. I can just imagine Shaft and Foxy Brown (no not that one, this one) hustling their way through Harlem with this as the soundtrack.
The Renegades of Jazz remix of The Good Vibe is a great big chunk of b-boy bothering jazz-funk combining a wicked break with a delicate guitar line, whomping horns, gumbo piano and some fantastic vibes. I can see this one becoming a dancefloor favourite in no time.
If you want to feel like you’re in Bullit, then buy this, break out the black turtleneck, get in the Mustang and just drive.
