Another Parisian jaunt, another slightly late Three on a Thursday. I wouldn’t mind if they put me up in the Four Seasons George V, but I’m always stuck in a Novotel next to a main road, where the only food available is from the Chinese next door … or at least that#s my excuse for slowly becoming a fatteh.
Hopefully I’ll be more on the ball next week, and I’m sure my mood will be improved come Friday when myself and Mr Powercut will by kicking in the back doors of the Big Chill Study – if the tunes below get you in the mood, pop on down.
First up this week is a track from a fellow Bristolian called Sam, so it must be good …
Frenic’s Better Get Lifted starts slowly, layering the mood up with a sweet little drum break and 70’s esque vocal, before subtly turning into a mid tempo chugger and slipping a wobbly bassline up your back passage – my ears felt positively violated I tell you …
It was released a while ago (yes I know I can be slow on the uptake) on the Soulbass EP on Pig Balls records and is well worth a few of your hard earned shekels.
Next is The Captain‘s remix of Ursula 1000‘s Hey You, and its a corker, if for no other reason that it samples the second best cowbell player in the world (after Will Ferrell obviously), Fred Schneider from the B-52. I can’t help but imagine him driving a massive Cadilliac full of women with massive beehive hairdos every time I hear his voice which is exactly the vibe that this track needs
Little bit of a dark and beaty number for you as the last one this week. The Echaskech guys do a wonderful line in Orbital-esque electronic bleepery combined with awesome visuals (which explains the seriously good video this tune is packing as well), but this one has a nice little hip-hop edge to it in the form of the vocal from Napoleon Complex. You can download it free here. Props to Mr van der Vord for the tip
